Yavneh Girls was graced with a visit from Dayan Berger who affixed a Mezuza into the front door of our new building. Addressing the girls, Dayan Berger spoke of the unique responsibility that the Yavneh Girls have in representing the community, referring to Yavneh as a crown in the jewel of Manchester Jewry.
Other Mezuzos were affixed by Rabbi Ephraim Guttentag, Rabbi Boruch Krasner, Rabbi Benjy Simmonds, Danny Lopian and other staff members. The students enjoyed affixing the other Mezuzos around the school.

The entire school joined Lani Eshel (BA shlicha) & Laura Silbermann (Mizrachi shlicha) for a dynamic demonstration of the Mitzvah of Hafrashat Challah (separating a portion of the dough which was once given to the Kohen). The sixth form students gracefully stepped into a leadership role as they helped run the event up until the very last detail. We spoke of the meaning infused in this very special Mitzvah to women, and the girls tried out different ways to shape and add toppings to the dough.
The aroma of the challot baking was a delightful way to finish off the event. We are on the way back from camp. The girls have had a fantastic time. I think it has been such a positive bonding experience especially with the sixth form girls who are great role models.
Yavneh girls, Mums, alumnae and other community members were blown away by two outstanding talks given by Gila Manolson and Beatie Deutsch.
Gila spoke candidly about Tzniut equating it with self esteem. With some entertaining anecdotes she was able to drive home a powerful message..Gila the author of the best selling 'the magic touch, inside/outside' to name a few, has a refreshing attitude to these all important issues. She left us with a feeling of wanting to hear more of her wisdom. Beatie took us on her journey from her dream of becoming a marathon runner to the fulfillment of that dream. Despite challenges along the way Beatie saw each bump in the road as a means to learn something from, to invite Hashem into her life every step of the way. As the new face for and Adidas advert she states 'where some see an orthodox runner, I see my belief pushing me forward'. It is with this outlook that Beatie has inspired thousands through her talks and social media platform. |
